Dressing for your Vespa: Be Fearless, Wear a Skirt and Look Sexy While you Ride

By

I’m not sure why, but there’s something so carefree, fun, and alluring about a woman driving a Vespa. There’s a sense of possibility about her, a sense of easy fun and excitement. Not to mention the oh-so-sexy glimpse of a bit of leg beneath a wind-fluttered skirt. Talking about getting attention…

Sound good? If you own a Vespa or are thinking about buying one, the fun, sexy image you’ll make driving it around the city is probably a big reason why you wanted one in the first place. Want to know how to dress for your Vespa and have the most sex appeal while you ride? Read on.

Skirts and High Heels

One of the main ideas behind the creation of the Vespa was… the skirt. The man who designed it wanted to make a scooter that women, who at the time wore long skirts, would be able to drive. So he designed it with an open front to keep us ladies from having to hike up our skirts and straddle a seat-- making us look decidedly unladylike.

While today’s women aren’t as ladylike as we used to be (thank goodness for that!), and aren’t usually afraid of getting on a motorcycle in a skirt, Vespas still feel like they were designed for wearing a skirt and high heels. What kind of skirts should you wear on your Vespa? Anything that shows a bit of leg. While you might want to avoid overly loose, short skirts --who knows when a stiff breeze will expose you to the world, a la Paris Hilton-- there’s nothing sexier than a girl in a short skirt and high heels (which will make your calves flex ultra--sexily, even sitting down) perched up on a Vespa. Or a gal could simply buck expectations and make her statement with over the knee socks and skirt.

Vintage Styles

The Vespa’s heyday was the 1950’s, when a beautiful Audrey Hepburn in a mid-calf-length skirt and a jaunty scarf was filmed driving one around in “Roman Holiday.” Even though Vespa models have changed a bit over the years, the styling is essentially the same-- and even brand new Vespas invoke a feeling of times past, of fun and fancy free. Of sitting on Gregory Peck’s lap and winding your way through narrow Roman streets.T

A great way to catch a lot of eyes and look great on a Vespa is to match your outfit to your scooter with a vintage style. Choose a belted 1950’s-style shirt dress and a neck scarf. Or don a pair of skin-tight capris (a.k.a. pedal pushers) and an off-the-shoulder top. Don’t want to go all-out? You can get a super-cute 50’s look with a pair of skinny pants and simple white keds. Complete the look with a classic vintage styled scooter helmet.
